Healthy Cheesy Cracker Chips

Coach Cristina wanted to make a healthier version of her children’s favorite cracker—the Cheeze It—with minimal ingredients. Spoiler alert, these were not only mom tested, but kid approved!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 4 tbsp butter cold
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 3 tbsp water filtered

Instructions

  • Combine cheese, butter, salt, onion powder, and garlic powder in a food processor.
  • Add flour and continue mixing until crumbled.
  • Gradually add water and continue mixing until a dough forms.
  • Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 1 – 2hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350-degrees F.
  • Roll out dough and slice into squares. (I added a hole to the center using a wooden skewer)
  • Bake for 15 – 17 minutes, or when the crackers start to turn golden brown.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Chef Note: I like to use a block of cheese and grate it myself. The prepackaged shredded cheese has additional ingredients used in processing, and I wanted to avoid processed cheese.
Chef Note: Before I get hate mail about using whole wheat flour, this is just what I have found works best. I have played around with almond flour and coconut flour and have found whole wheat flour just works best here.
Chef Note: You can completely change the flavor profile by mixing in some of your favorite spices. You could even kick up the heat or change the cheese. Be creative!
