What Is CurcuWIN? And Why Is It Better than Curcumin?

curcuwin vs curcumin

With the word “WIN” right in the name, you know it’s going to be good, right? Luckily, that logic holds true when it comes to CurcuWIN™ as this golden-yellow compound has certainly earned a medal in the world of wellness.

Although CurcuWIN may be one of the best in class, you probably have not heard of it. However, you may be familiar with its close relative, curcumin, which gets the lion’s share of attention in the arena. But we are here to tell you why CurcuWIN is the true star of the show.

But first, let’s address the obvious: What Is CurcuWIN?

To best understand what CurcuWIN is, we are going to trace it all the way back to its roots, more specifically down to one root—turmeric.

Turmeric has long been recognized as a spice that may help promote health and wellness. Found on most spice shelves and cabinets, turmeric is made of the ground roots of the plant and is the key spice in curry dishes.

While turmeric has been hailed in the wellness and flavor industries, the majority of the health benefits of turmeric can be attributed to its active compounds known as curcuminoids.

The Complexities of Curcuminoids

Curcuminoids are active polyphenolic pigments and include curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin. These compounds have been extensively researched and shown to support multiple health benefits, which has sparked significant interest and fueled demand.

Within the family of curcuminoids, curcumin is the primary curcuminoid in turmeric and the compound examined most in studies. Curcumin appears to have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, but it’s best known to support the body’s ability to balance inflammation. Beyond this, curcumin has been linked to several other health benefits, such as support for the heart, joints, and brain.

Although curcumin is the most abundant of turmeric’s curcuminoid complex, it makes up only about three percent of turmeric. So, while turmeric contains curcumin, it’s found in very small amounts, so to enjoy any benefit, substantial amounts of turmeric need to be consumed.

Even more, it is well known that curcumin has poor absorption, biodistribution, metabolism, and bioavailability in the body. 1 One reason could be attributed to the body’s water composition. This is because curcumin is not water-soluble, causing it to clump together when coming into contact with water in the gut and thus leaving it unable to pass through the stomach’s lining to enter the bloodstream. 2

Since this is a recognized issue of turmeric and curcumin, certain strategies have been adapted to help the body take in more of the benefits. The most popular technique is to combine curcumin with black pepper since a major component in black pepper is a compound called bioperine, which may increase the bioavailability. 3

However, some researchers point out that curcumin with black pepper may not increase the absorption of curcumin in the body as much as hoped as it is not detected in the blood. 4 Therefore, even with this popular approach, we may still not be able to gain the maximum benefit these compounds have to offer.

CurcuWIN: A Winning Solution

Which now brings us to CurcuWIN. CurcuWIN is a natural form of curcumin combined with a hydrophilic carrier, cellulosic derivatives, and antioxidants. This means, unlike curcumin, CurcuWIN is water-soluble, making it more bioavailable, better absorbed, and longer lasting than other curcumin formulations.

In fact, in a randomized, double-blind crossover study, researchers found CurcuWIN to be 46 times more absorbable than standard curcumin mixtures. 5 Importantly, this study was designed so participants could serve as their own controls, meaning a direct comparison could be made between the bioavailability of the curcumin ingredients tested within the same person.

By dramatically increasing absorption through the use of CurcuWIN, we may be able to relish all the amazing and highly researched potential benefits of curcumin, such as:

  • Brain Health: Studies have shown curcumin may help promote brain health and cognitive function. This is because curcumin may help increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which is a type of growth hormone that functions in your brain. 6,7 BDNF aids in driving neurons to form new connections and multiply, thus supporting cognitive function, mood, and mental health.
  • Joint Health: Curcumin is best recognized for its supportive effects on joint health. This is because curcumin may help support the body’s healthy inflammatory response, which may then assist the body in supporting joint health and potentially help reduce pain and discomfort as well as increase ease of movement.
  • Circulatory Health: Curcumin may lead to improvements in endothelial function, which is a major player in heart health. Endothelial cells release substances that “control vascular relaxation and contraction as well as enzymes that control blood clotting, immune function, and platelet adhesion.” Studies have shown curcumin may improve the age-related decline in endothelial function. 10 Additionally, curcumin may help reduce oxidative stress resulting in endothelial dysfunction. 11
  • Antioxidant Support: Curcumin appears to serve as a powerful antioxidant as it helps protect against free radicals. 12 Not only may curcumin block free radicals directly, but it may also stimulate the body’s own antioxidant defenses by boosting the activity of its own antioxidant enzymes. 13

With so many scientifically supported health benefits, it only makes sense that we want our bodies to get the most out of everything we are putting in them, making CurcuWIN a clear winner.

Health is our number one priority, so we want to give everyone the best opportunity to feel their best. That’s exactly why we use CurcuWIN over curcumin in BioTRUST products. CurcuWIN is the optimal solution to curcumin absorption, shown to be significantly more bioavailable than standard curcumin.
