4 Ingredient Recovery Thirst-Quencher (low-calorie and tasty)

Post-Workout Recovery Recipe

Looking for a drink that will help you seriously rehydrate after a workout without loading up on a bunch of sugar and stuff you don’t need? Let me introduce you to my recovery thirst-quencher.

The 4 Ingredients That Are Key to My Recovery Drink

First up: Coconut Water

Coconut water, or coconut juice, is the clear liquid found inside of a coconut. It’s naturally low in sugar and contains a variety of electrolytes, including sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

Potassium helps balance fluids and electrolytes in the body, particularly during exercise. And one 8-ounce glass of coconut water contains as much potassium as one banana.

In addition to hydrating, coconut water contains antioxidants that may help neutralize oxidative stress and free radicals that occur during physical activity/exercise.

Coconut water also contains magnesium. Magnesium is crucial to recovery after exercise because a hard workout can leave you depleted and thus prone to cramps, restless muscles, and spasms. Magnesium also helps deliver calcium and potassium into your muscles to assist with contraction and relaxation.

Next up is MetaboGreens®. What’s not to love about this energizing berry-flavored water enhancer? This product combines an energizing blend of over 40 nutrient-rich raw greens, vegetables, superfruits, exotic herbs, berries, and spices into the world’s most delicious superfood blend—optimized with polyphenols, which are the antioxidants that give plants their superpowers—to powerfully support:

  • Robust energy levels
  • Detoxification
  • A healthy metabolism
  • Appetite management
  • Healthy aging
  • Gut health
  • And more!

Lemons have long been included as a garnish for water, which has been shown to help folks consume more water. I would be lying if I didn’t say consuming plain water is pretty darn amazing, but if adding lemon helps you guzzle more of it down, then slice or squeeze away.

There are also some known health benefits of including lemon not only to your water, but to your hydration/recovery drink. To name a few, lemon:

  • Promotes hydration
  • Supports weight loss
  • Is packed with Vitamin C
  • Aids in digestion

Last but not least, Himalayan sea salt. Salt is essential to health and wellness—our bodies need it. But just like Goldilocks, you can’t have too much or too little: It needs to be just right. Salt is made up of two electrolytes, sodium and chloride, which helps in maintaining the fluid balance in your body.

The reason I am particularly partial to Himalayan sea salt is because it is one of the purest minerals on earth. Proponents suggest it may help balance the pH levels in the body, flush out toxins, and improve your energy, all while rehydrating you. Scientifically speaking, negatively charged ions found in pure salt, along with other trace minerals, enter into the cells and may help pull toxins from them.
